Diabetic in pregnancy ! is it a hereditary problem?

My gf was born to her mother after 10 years of marriage and cuple of misscarrigaes due to diabatic in pregnancy. what exactly is thi problem. is this problem heriditry? will my gf also suffer from the same problem during her pregnacy? will the kid be normal? if yes is there any way to take some precaution.
