Do economic liberalism and democracy still go hand-in-hand ?
This is a debate on the growing problem of combining economic liberalism with a democratic political system. While in the aftermath of the Industrial Revolution the two seemed like naturally compatible to the point to which one cannot be fully implemented without the other, there is a growing political conflict between supporters of economic freedom on one side and supporters of political and civil freedom on the other. Both in the U.S. and Europe, the general electorate increasingly favors sacrificing economic freedom for more welfare and so-called "economic fairness" . What do you think ?
